Campane Pasquali
The sonority of the bells is the bridge connecting the Earth with the Heavens.
This is the path I chose to convey the sacred spirit of Easter. It is quite a challenge to make human voices sound like bells. The substitution of legato with marcato seems contradictory to the very nature of singing. Yet, I took this risk with the intent of having each accented tone filled with the melodious inner cantabile of the singers.

This piece incorporates all 24 triads, both major and minor. The tonal plan moves around the circle of fifths, starting in D major and gradually moving towards flats. Eventually the music returns to D major from the other side of the circle, making even a step further, to G major. The circle of fifths symbolically connects the points of Jesus' Earthly life and, at the end, opens into the new dimension where G major stands as the image of Paradise.
While composing this piece, I was envisioning Easter night amongst a crowd of exalted people gathered in one of the majestic squares of Florence or Venice; the jubilant Easter bells rise up from all corners of the city and resound in human souls.
