Es ist ein Ros

My artistic life has been bound with the Saint Louis Chamber Chorus for many years. This collaboration inspired a multitude of choral works in various genres and forms. The choir was founded in 1956 and has been under Philip Barnes' direction since 1988. Each of its concert seasons is dedicated to a particular philosophical or historical theme: Five centuries of the Sacred motet, Chants of Lament and Repentance, Music Renditions to World Spiritual Leaders. One of the recent seasons of the Saint Louis Chamber Chorus was entitled Our Indivisible Mankind and comprised of six concerts named Friendship, Hope, Miracle, Love, Compassion, and Joy.

The Saint Louis Chamber Chorus has performed music of diverse cultural and ethnic traditions in more than twenty different languages, including Icelandic, Japanese, Hebrew, Ancient Greek, and Church Slavonic. The Christmas concert in 2015 was all sung in German and presented music of German-Austrian tradition spanning across many centuries. I had the privilege to contribute to this program with my own work entitled Es ist ein Ros Enrsprungen , based on the popular Christmas carol  text. This piece is composed as an eight-part motet for four soloists and a mixed choir, intertwining traditions of Renaissance polyphony with contemporary tonal, rhythmic, and textural idioms.
